Charges have been filed against two suspects arrested in an incident in which a Houston police officer discharged his duty weapon at one of the suspects at 3103 Dacca about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday (July 27).
The suspects, Anthony Sheppard (b/m, 27) and Tommy Jenkins (b/m, 22), are charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in the 263rd State District Court.Senior Police Officer B. Green, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident.  Officer Green was sworn in as an officer in February 1996 and is assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division.

HPD Homicide Division Officers T. Ferguson and J. Saldana reported:

Two black male suspects armed with guns and wearing masks entered the Family Dollar store at 13222 Cullen Boulevard.  The suspects stole the contents of the cash register and fled in a vehicle.  The vehicle was later spotted and pursued by HPD patrol officers.  The suspects crashed the vehicle near the 3100 block of Airport Drive and then fled on foot.

Officer Green heard about the accident on his police radio and went to check the neighborhood south of the 3100 block of Airport.  Officer Green saw a fence gate open and clothes laying on the ground near the back of a residence in the 3100 block of Dacca.  Officer Green went to the rear of the residence to search for any possible suspects.  As he went to open a large garbage can, one of the suspects suddenly jumped out of the can.  Fearing for his safety, Officer Green discharged his duty weapon in the direction of the suspect, but did not strike him.  The suspect immediately surrendered and was taken into custody.  A second suspect was also found in the area a short time later.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
