One Houston ISD student was killed and three others seriously injured this morning when an HISD school bus bound for Furr High School flew off the 610 Loop at Telephone Road, according to the Houston Fire Department and school district.
The bus was transporting four students to Furr High School, including a female who died at the scene, HISD reported. The wreck occurred just after 7 a.m. and left the school bus mangled.
The three other students as well as the driver were taken to area hospitals. All of the survivors of the crash suffered injuries. Further information about their conditions is not available at this time.
Furr High School is also home to REACH Charter High School and it is unclear at this time whether the students attend Furr or REACH, according to HISD.
The accident is under investigation by Houston ISD Police and Houston Police Department.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and the loss of one of our students,” said HISD Superintendent Terry Grier. “I ask all of the HISD community to join me in praying for all of those involved.”
