The Humble High School varsity cheerleading squad attended the Universal Cheerleading Association’s 2007 national competition held Feb. 8-12 in Orlando, Florida’s Disneyland Resort and placed seventh in their division. _x000D_
“For the fifteenth consecutive year, the Humble squad advanced to the final round of the Large Coed Division, finishing in seventh place, said Varsity Cheerleading Coach Patricia Muthart. “This year’s Humble squad was unique in that there were no returning female varsity members due to the opening of Atascocita High School.”_x000D_
There were, however, several senior girls on the Humble squad who had not cheered since their middle school days. In spite of their obstacles, the squad was able to continue their national ranking as this was the third year in a row that Humble finished in seventh place. _x000D_
“The squad performed a near flawless routine in preliminaries to advance to finals in the fifth place slot,” said Muthart. “In finals, Humble was the last squad to perform, hitting the mat close to 11 p.m. and was unable to match their preliminary performance, dropping two spots to seventh place,” said Muthart. _x000D_
Muthart said that she was very proud of her 20-member coed team and what they accomplished. She said that Humble High School was the highest-ranking large, coed varsity-squad from the state of Texas, just edging out their rival Lewisville High School._x000D_
Muthart said that Atscocita High School also attended the competition in the small, varsity division. She said that she felt that it was important that the sister schools watched each other’s performances and cheered for each other. Atascocita ended one slot short of semi-finals. _x000D_
