UPDATE: Investigation into fatal Kingwood shooting, victim shot in back

The Houston Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of a Kingwood man at 5443 Garden Village Drive in Elm Grove Village about 12:50 a.m. today (Sept. 5).

The victim, 23-year-old Barrett Shirley, is a Kingwood High School graduate and former Mustang football player.

According to police, Shirley was visiting with friends at the home when he decided to retrieve something from his car which was parked in the driveway. At some point, an unknown gunman shot Shirley once in his back.

Shirley then stumbled back into the home and died at the scene.

“The victim was in front of the residence at the above residence when he was shot,” HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. McStravick, Senior Police Ofiicer T. Andrade and Officer M. Arroyo reported. “He then ran inside the residence where he collapsed and was pronounced dead at the scene.”

There are no known suspects or motives in shooting, HPD reported.
