Suspect arrested in fatal eastside hit-and-run incident, court docs released
Charges have been filed against a suspect that allegedly fled the scene of an accident that killed a man driving a motorcycle in the 13400 block of the East Freeway around Aug. 24, according to the Houston Police Department.
The suspect, Jose Carlos Garza, 26, is charged with failure to stop and render aid in a late-night accident that killed 21-year-old Rodney Matthew Hough, Jr., HPD reported.
Hough, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The driver of a black Dodge Challenger, driving at a high rate of speed westbound on the East Freeway struck the rear of a white Suzuki motorcycle,” HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant T. Trometer and Officer F. Flynn reported. “The operator of the motorcycle [Hough] died at the scene. The driver of the Dodge fled westbound on the East Freeway and abandoned the vehicle just before John Ralston Street.”
Further investigation and evidence from the scene identified Garza as the suspect in this case.
A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was taken into custody without incident Monday.
