Details: On 09/03/2015 at approximately 2300 hours (estimated by Nickolas Hatter) Kelvin Ashley was traveling southeast in the 3700 block of South Brentchase Circle. Mr. Hatter was driving a separate vehicle and was a short distance in front of Mr. Ashley. Mr. Hatter observed the headlights of Mr. Ashley’s Toyota Camry abruptly veer to the right. When he saw Mr. Ashley was no longer behind him, he turned around and went back to the area he last saw headlights. Mr. Hatter did not locate the Camry and thought Mr. Ashley had turned down Vickston Lane. Mr. Hatter looked around and was unable to locate Unit 1 and left the area. On 09/04/2015 the family of Mr. Ashley had not heard from Mr. Ashley and Mr. Hatter returned to the area of this incident. He searched the tree line and observed the red reflection of the Camry. He approached the Camry and observed Mr. Ashley had crashed the night before and exhibited no signs of life. EMS arrived on scene and Paramedic A. Paola reported the death of Mr. Ashley at 2302 hours. Based on the investigation, I concluded the crash did occur on the night of 09/03/2015 and the exact time is unknown. Mr. Ashley was traveling southeast when he failed to maintain a single lane of travel around the curve. The Camry’s right tires struck the curb and he drove off the right side of the roadway. The Camry drove through a tree line and crashed into a tree. The front left of the Camry struck the tree causing the vehicle to rotate counter clockwise to rest. The friends and family members that were with Mr. Ashley prior to this indicated he had been drinking and was likely intoxicated at the time he was driving. A blood specimen will be collected during an autopsy and analyzed. This case remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Division.
