UPDATE: Two students die in HISD school bus wreck
Two students were killed, and two students and their bus driver were seriously injured this morning when an HISD school bus crashed at the 610 Loop and Telephone Road.
The bus was bound for Furr High School and was carrying four students, including two African American females who did not survive the crash, which occurred around 7 a.m. One student was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The other student was pronounced dead later at an area hospital. Two other students and the driver have been taken to hospitals. Further information about their conditions is not available at this time.
Furr High School is also home to REACH Charter High School and it is unclear at this time which schools the students attended.
The accident is under investigation by Houston ISD Police and Houston PD. The bus driver has been with HISD for about three years and has a clean driving record. Records show that the bus last underwent a maintenance inspection in June.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy,” said HISD Superintendent Terry Grier. “I ask all of the HISD community to join me in praying for all of those involved.”
