Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment deadline less than a week away

There is still time for Houstonians to get coverage in the Health Insurance Marketplace through the Affordable Care Act.
Saturday, January 15, 2022, is the last day to enroll in or change plans for 2022 coverage. After the Open Enrollment deadline, people can enroll or change plans only if they qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
The Marketplace allows people to shop for and compare health insurance coverage that meets their individual needs and budget.
Houstonians may be able to get more savings and lower costs on Marketplace health insurance coverage due to the American Rescue Plan Act. The new law authorized in March 2021 increases financial help through tax credits to reduce the burden of healthcare costs for millions of consumers, expands access to insurance coverage, and addresses health care disparities.
Premiums after these new savings will decrease, on average, by $50 per person per month or by $85 per policy per month. Four out of five enrollees will be able find a plan for $10 or less/month after premium tax credits, and over 50% will be able to find a Silver plan for $10 or less.
“The pandemic highlights the strain for many families who need to see a doctor but don’t have the resources to cover the costs,” said Stephen Williams, director of the Houston Health Department. “Houstonians should take advantage of the affordable health care plans available right now through the Marketplace.”
Marketplace plans include:

Emergency services,
Pregnancy, maternity, and newborn care,
Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management,
Pediatric services,
Prescription drugs,
Laboratory Services, and
Pre-existing conditions.
