We’re looking for the next voice in rap and hip-hop! Our judging process is all about finding that raw talent and unique sound. Independent and amateur artists only allowed! Here’s what we’re looking for and how the contest works:
How We Judge Your Entry
Our judges are primarily focused on your writing ability, the effectiveness of your lyrics, the song structure, and the strength of your delivery and performance. We’re also weighing the originality of your concept, its marketability, and your distinctive style. Sound quality is not much of a factor here.
Our best advice? Bring your authentic self! We want to hear what makes your music stand out from everything else. In past contests, winning tracks have ranged from gritty street anthems to conscious lyrical journeys, and everything in between.
If your song makes it to the Quarterfinalist stage or higher, that means we see serious potential. Your track is above average, and we’re confident we can help you further develop it and potentially promote it within the industry. Final deadline is August 30.
Basic Guidelines:
Include your song title on your submission. You can remove your contact information (name, email, etc.) if you prefer, but it won’t disqualify your entry if you leave it.
Co-Writers: Absolutely! Collaborations are welcome.
Submission Format: We only accept MP3 or WAV files. Please ensure your track is clearly labeled.
Song Length: We prefer submissions that are between 2-5 minutes. All rap and hip-hop sub-genres are welcome.
Multiple Entries: There’s no limit to how many songs you can submit! Each entry, however, requires a separate fee.
Rights: All rights to your submitted material remain with you, the artist, whether you place as a finalist or not.
Originality: The song you enter must not have been previously released in its full form. Demos or partial releases are okay.
Age Requirement: You must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of entry.
Who Are the Judges?
All entries are judged by dedicated music development executives and senior staff. We never use unpaid interns, volunteers, or “seasonal” readers. You’re getting expert ears on your music.
