HOUSTON, TX– The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in solving the murder of 21-year-old Angel Santiago Muñiz, who was shot and killed on November 19, 2023, outside Tacos del Toro #2 on Freeport Street in East Houston.
“This young man had his entire future ahead of him. Someone out there knows what happened, and we need them to come forward,” said Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. “The Muñiz family deserves closure and our community deserves justice.”
Surveillance video shows Angel’s white pickup turning onto Muscatine Street, followed closely by a dark-colored Lexus SUV with severe rear passenger-side damage. Moments later, a gray, newer model Toyota Camry LE is seen speeding past both vehicles, cutting off the Lexus and following Angel into a driveway.
That’s when, according to investigators, the driver of the Camry opened fire and killed Angel. The Lexus backed away from the scene, and detectives believe that driver witnessed the entire shooting.
“We just want justice,” said Rosendo Muñiz, Angel’s father.
“It destroyed us. Not just as a family, but me, as a person,” said Fabiola Muñiz, Angel’s younger sister.
Angel was just 21 years old. He worked as a mechanic and helped raise his two younger sisters, Fabiola and Marisol, and supported them financially.
The investigation remains open and active, but detectives say they need just one person, the witness in the Lexus, to do the right thing.
“Imagine if it were your family,” said Detective Talip. “Please do the right thing and come forward.”
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit urges anyone with information to call them directly at 713-274-9100. You may also remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS. Tipsters could be eligible for a $5,000 reward leading to an arrest.
