HOUSTON, TX- The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has joined forces with the nonprofit organization No Queen Left Behind to host a hands-on self-defense class, empowering young women with the skills and confidence to protect themselves in potentially life-threatening situations.
During the class, participants were introduced to practical techniques, including palm strikes, elbow strikes, knee kicks, and methods for breaking free from an attacker on the ground. The training, led by HCSO Defense Tactics Instructor Deputy Anthony Bernabeo, focused on equipping young women with the ability to defend themselves until help arrives.
Cindy Guerrero, President of No Queen Left Behind, stated that the training aligns with her organization’s mission to develop both safety skills and self-confidence in young women.
“We want to promote confidence and empowerment, and we want to make sure that these girls start understanding what the dangers are out there,” Guerrero said.
For the participants, the partnership between HCSO and No Queen Left Behind meant walking away not only with new skills but also with the confidence to carry themselves with strength and awareness in their daily lives.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to fostering community partnerships that enhance public safety and foster resilience.
