Tragic House Fire in The Greater Fifth Ward

WHAT: House fire.
WHEN: January 24, 2025, at 1:36 a.m.
WHERE: 3800 block of Lila St. 77026.
INJURIES: One resident found deceased, one resident transported to the hospital. Several deceased dogs.
PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.
DAMAGE: Not available.
CAUSE: Under investigation.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene to find fire coming from a small 1-story house. A resident ran out and told the crew that the other resident was still inside the home, after which she was transported to the hospital. Firefighters began a primary search as crews made an attack on the fire. A deceased victim was found inside, along with several deceased dogs. Once the fire was controlled, the home was ventilated and HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin. 48 personnel responded to this incident, including crews from Stations 27, 15, 8, 19, 9, 12, 34, 30 and Rescue 42.
