WHO: The Harris County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Harris County Constables, Metro Police Department, Katy Police Department, Jersey Village Police Department, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), will hold a press conference to announce a coordinated effort to combat impaired driving throughout Memorial Day weekend.
WHAT: The initiative includes increased DWI enforcement, no-refusal blood draws, prosecutorial support to streamline the arrest process for suspected impaired drivers.
WHY: Harris County continues to see some of the highest rates of DWI-related fatalities in the nation. With Memorial Day weekend marking the unofficial start of summer — and historically a dangerous time on the roads — this initiative underscores the county’s commitment to preventing impaired driving tragedies through education, enforcement, and collaboration.
