HOUSTON, TX – On Friday, September 11, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office joins nearly 100 communities nationwide for Friday Night Lights Unity Seats, honoring the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Harris County is one of just five national marquee sites for the activation, alongside Shanksville, Pennsylvania; New York City; Arlington, Virginia; and Los Angeles.
As part of the tribute, participants at each site will physically pass a purple football, marking the launch of “Pass the Purple” — a new social media campaign inviting Americans to counter online negativity with a simple, visible act of unity.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez will represent the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at Ray Maddry Memorial Stadium, 828 Sheldon Rd, Channelview, TX 77530, as Channelview High School takes on Clear Creek. Kickoff is Friday, September 11, 2026, at 7:00 PM.
HCSO Command Staff will represent HCSO at Ken Pridgeon Stadium, 11355 Falcon Rd, Houston, TX 77065, as Cy-Fair High School plays Cypress Springs. Kickoff is also Friday, September 11, 2026, at 7:00 PM.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office encourages the community and our media partners to come out Friday night, take a seat, and be part of an evening that’s about more than football — it’s about remembering, honoring, and standing together, twenty-five years on.
