Apartment Fire in The Briar Forest Area
WHAT: Apartment fire.
WHEN: January 16, 2024, at 8:45 p.m.
WHERE: 1445 Lakeside Estates Dr. 77042.
INJURIES: One children transported to the hospital as a precaution.
PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.
DAMAGE: Four apartment units suffered from smoke and water damage.
CAUSE: Unintentional.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within three minutes to find light smoke coming from the second floor of a 2-story apartment building. They made an offensive attack and pulled the siding to gain access to the fire. Heavy smoke was found in a second-floor unit, with fire coming from the air conditioning heating vent. A primary search was conducted, and the utilities were controlled. Several additional HFD units were requested, and the fire was found behind a dryer in a first-floor unit laundry room. The fire spread up into the duct work to the second floor. Firefighters extinguished the fire and ventilated the units with fans. Four units had smoke and water damage. The American Red Cross was notified and arrived on scene. As a precaution, a child was taken to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation. 42 personnel responded to this incident, including crews from Stations 2, 78, 83, 10, 57, 60, 69, 75 and 57.
