Residential Fire in The Greater Fifth Ward Area

WHAT: Residential fire.
WHEN: January 16, 2024, at 8:20 a.m.
WHERE: 3900 block of New Orleans St. at 1700 block of Granger St. 77020.
INJURIES: No reported injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.
DAMAGE: $40,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Under investigation.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within three minutes to find fire coming from the windows, doors and roof of a 1-story residential building which appeared to be vacant and unsecured. They used multiple hand lines to bring the fire under control. The building sustained major fire damage and partially collapsed. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin. 36 personnel responded to this fire including crews from Stations 23, 8, 19, 9, 17, 19, 27, 20, and Rescue 42.
