Media Advisory: Children of Residents at the Harris County Jail Women’s Empowerment Center to Receive Christmas Gifts

Houston, TX – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with Navidad en el Barrio, a non-profit organization, is bringing holiday cheer to the children of mothers at the Harris County Jail Women’s Empowerment Center.

The Women’s Empowerment Center adopts a holistic approach to assist incarcerated individuals in reducing recidivism and providing guidance for their reintegration after release.

Founded in 1987 by retired HPD Officer Israel “Izzy” Gomez, Jr., Navidad en el Barrio aims to improve the lives of less fortunate individuals in our communities.

What: Forty-four children will receive Christmas gifts purchased with donations from Navidad en el Barrio, offering joy during a challenging time. Seventeen residents of the center will participate in the event.

When: Friday, December 27, 2024, at 1:00 PM

Where: Harris County Women’s Empowerment Center, 1307 Baker Street, Houston, Texas
