A suspect charged and wanted in the fatal shooting of a woman at 3401 Dunvale Street about 7:15 p.m. on January 17 is in custody.
The suspect, Algie Mac Washington, 45, is charged with murder in the 176th State District Court. A booking photo of Washington is attached to this news release.
The victim is identified as Jaynice Ferguson, 23.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives A. Finlay and L. Kauffman reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex at the above address and found Ms. Ferguson unresponsive with at least one gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Ferguson to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased.
At that time, detectives pursued leads and believed the victim’s ex-boyfriend (Washington) was a person of interest.
Further investigation identified him as the suspect in this case. The Harris County District Attorney Office was contacted and a murder charge was filed against Washington.
Subsequent investigation developed information on Washington’s whereabouts and, today (January 24), officers from the HPD Crime Reduction Unit and SWAT responded to an apartment complex in the 2500 block of Winrock Street. Washington was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Harris County Jail.
