Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 6215 Tierwester Street about 3:30 p.m. on June 15, 2022.
The suspect, Raishard Jamal Potts, 23, is charged with murder in the 208th State District Court. A booking photo of Potts is attached to this news release.
The victim is identified as Terrance Lewis, 20.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Dunn and M. Hughey reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex at the above address and found Lewis in the entry to an apartment. It appeared he had sustained a gunshot wound and responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Further investigation revealed Lewis was at a co-worker’s apartment cooking food for homeless people. Lewis and his friend work for a non-profit organization that prepares food and feeds the homeless in the city. He was walking back to the apartment after throwing away trash when an unknown male suspect fired shots at Lewis from the parking lot of the complex.
At that time, there was no known motive.
Subsequent investigation identified Potts, who is in the Harris County Jail on an unrelated charge, as the suspect in this case. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and, on January 19, a murder charge was filed.
