On Friday, December 27th, 2024, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Harris County Sheriff’s Office patrol units responded to the Providence at Champions apartment complex at 5100 West FM 1960 in refence to a stabbing. The 911 caller reported that an intruder was in her home and refusing to leave. Upon their arrival on scene, they located 28 year old Gavin Escamilla, who had suffered a stab wound to the chest. Escamilla was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Homicide investigators interviewed the homeowner who stated that Escamilla is her ex-boyfriend and had been following her recently. Escamilla apparently followed her home from a club she was at earlier in the evening and after knocking on her door, barged in and began arguing with her. During the argument, Escamilla put her in a headlock but she was able to break free and retrieve a knife from the kitchen. When he moved towards her again, she stated she stabbed at him to get him away. Escamilla made it outside of the apartment and waited there until deputies and EMS arrived.
The homeowner is cooperating with investigators and provided a statement in regards to her actions. Investigators have located previous family violence history between the two individuals but no charges were pending against Escamilla at the time of the incident. At this time, no charges are pending in regards to this incident but the case, upon completion of the investigation, will be presented to a grand jury for any possible charges.
