Suspect Arrested, Charged in October 2024 Death of Infant at 4078 Barberry Drive
Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the death of an infant at 4078 Barberry Drive about 9 p.m. on October 25, 2024.
The suspect, Jamal Rayshun Porter, 28, is charged with injury to a child in the 208th State District Court. A booking photo of Porter is attached to this news release.
The three-month-old infant was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Barrow and J. Caten reported:
Jamal Porter and the child’s mother contacted 9-1-1 and reported the infant was unresponsive inside the residence. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the infant to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences revealed the child had suffered blunt force trauma which contributed to his death.
After further investigation and consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Porter was subsequently charged for his role in the infant’s death. Porter was arrested Wednesday (February 19) without incident.
