Houston police are investigating the death of a man that occurred at 11800 Astoria Boulevard about 2 p.m. on Sunday (June 8).
The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Persad and Detective C. Bowling reported:
HPD officers as well as Houston Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a deceased male in a large field at the above address. Witnesses reported seeing a male whose lower legs were engulfed in flames and attempted to assist him by putting out the fire unsuccessfully. HFD was able to extinguish the fire however the male was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Further investigation determined a gas can and electric bicycle were found nearby. The circumstances of the man’s death as well as the ignition of the fire are being jointly investigated by the HPD Homicide Division, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences as well as the Houston Fire Department Arson Division.
