Investigation into Fatal Crash at 4558 Ennis Street
Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 4558 Ennis Street about 11:25 a.m. today (July 16).
The identity of the deceased male, 70, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer R. Bymaster reported:
The driver of a red Mazda CX5 was traveling south on the Texas Southern University (TSU) driveway at the above address near the Columbia Tap Rail-Trail, which cuts through the TSU campus. As the Mazda continued on the driveway, an electric scooter traveling east on the trail at a high rate of speed, failed to yield the right of way from a stop sign and was struck in the intersection. The male operating the scooter was ejected. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the male to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Mazda remained at the scene, did not show signs of intoxication, and was questioned and released.
The investigation is continuing.
