Investigation into Fatal Crash at 9600 West Loop South

Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 9600 West Loop South (West Interstate Highway 610) about 8:05 p.m. on Monday (Sept. 15).
The identity of the deceased individual is pending identification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Barrow and Officer M. Lozano reported:
The driver of a red Dodge Charger was traveling northbound on the west loop at a high rate of speed when they failed to maintain a single lane and struck a concrete barrier. The impact caused the front left tire to come off the vehicle and the rear left tire to shatter. The impact caused the rim to scrape against the concrete, creating sparks which ignited the gas tank.
The vehicle caught fire and the driver, who remained inside the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
There were no other persons or vehicles involved in this crash. The investigation is continuing.
