Houston police are investigating the shooting of an armed suspect by HPD officers at 2400 South Loop West about 7:50 a.m. on Monday (October 27).
The suspect, Darwish Wilson, 42, is charged with arson and burglary of a building in the 182nd Criminal District Court. A booking photo of Wilson, who is hospitalized, is not available at this time.
Five HPD officers discharged their duty weapons. Officers N. Funes, S. Koroma, J. Sanchez, A. Moguel and Probational Police Officer B. Moreira.  All are assigned to Southwest Patrol Division. They were sworn in May 2018, May 2022, August 2021, December 2019, and October 2025, respectively.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeants M. Burrow and R. Watson reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a call for service at an apartment complex at the above address. A security guard at the complex called 911 after trying to detain a male at that location who was suspected of burglarizing the leasing office earlier in the morning. The guard reported the suspect was armed with a pistol and was inside a vacant apartment.
Officers went to the apartment unit and attempted to call the suspect out.  The suspect refused to exit and began setting items on fire inside the apartment. Recognizing that he was attempting to set fire to the apartment building, officers attempted to enter the apartment, but the suspect had partially barricaded the door from the inside. Officers backed away and continued trying to communicate with the suspect.  The suspect then pointed a weapon at officers through the front window blinds of the apartment. Officers discharged their duty weapons, striking the suspect more than once.
The suspect then agreed to drop his weapon and exited the apartment. Officers rendered medical aid and Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to an area hospital in stable condition.
Investigators found evidence of the earlier burglary and arson inside the apartment. They also located a replica handgun inside.
Detectives consulted the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and the suspect was subsequently charged.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the Houston city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
