HPD Homicide Division Sergeants B. Roberts and Detective J. Wallschlaeger reported:
HPD patrol officers conducted a traffic stop in the 5000 block of Antione Drive. During the stop, officers learned the driver was wanted for a felony warrant. As officers attempted to place the suspect under arrest, the suspect began to flee in his vehicle initiating a pursuit.
During the pursuit, the suspect discharged a firearm at officers, striking one marked patrol vehicle. While evading officers, the suspect’s vehicle left the roadway near the intersection of Antoine Drive and West 34th Street, striking fixed objects. The suspect then fled the vehicle on foot and continued to evade officers.
While searching the area, an officer located the suspect in a parking lot located at 5828 West 34th Street. The suspect fired multiple shots at the officer and the officer returned fire. Another officer arrived and fired towards the suspect and he was struck at least one time. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to an area.
No officers were injured.
As is customary in officer involved shooting incidents, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
