Investigation into Fatal Crash at 5900 Eastex Freeway

Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 5900 Eastex Freeway (South Interstate Highway 59) about 2 a.m. on Sunday (Dec. 7).
The deceased male is identified as Ricardo Herrera, 21.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Barrow and Officer A. Thomas reported:
The driver of a gray Infiniti Q50 was traveling southbound in the 5900 block of the Eastex Freeway when he exited onto the 610 westbound ramp. The driver failed to maintain a single lane and the vehicle began to go off the roadway. The vehicle then drove onto a large dirt pile, which caused it to go airborne before striking a tree. Two of the four occupants were ejected from the vehicle.
Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the driver deceased at the scene. The three passengers were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
