Investigation into Fatal Crash at 5500 South Loop East

Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 5500 South Loop East (South Interstate Highway 610) about 9:25 a.m. today (January 2).
The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Alejandro and Officer M. Keita reported:
The driver of a white Ford F450 was traveling westbound on the South Loop East when he changed lanes and struck the front right tire of a white Volvo tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer lost control and dragged the Ford truck to the far right lanes and grassy area. The vehicles then struck a steel retaining wall and light pole.
The passenger in the Ford truck was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Ford did not show signs of intoxication and was questioned and released.
The investigation is ongoing.
