Investigation into Fatal Fire Incident at 6003 Southmont Street

Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of man found following a house fire at 6003 Southmont Street about 3:10 a.m. on Saturday (January 3).
The deceased male is identified as Eric Edwards, 42.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Perez and K. Aloysis reported:
An HPD sergeant on patrol in the area of Southmont Street observed a large cloud of smoke and located a residence engulfed in flames at the above address.  He immediately requested the Houston Fire Department and firefighters extinguished the fire.  After the fire was out, the victim was located inside the residence and pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is pending his cause of death.
The Houston Fire Department Arson Division is investigating the cause of the fire.
