Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman and the wounding of a juvenile male at 10800 Richmond Avenue about 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 7).
The suspect, Brayden Smith, 17, is charged with murder in the 209th Criminal District Court.
A second individual involved in the incident, Patrick Scott, 18, is charged with unlawful carry of a weapon in Harris County Criminal Court #15.  Booking photos of both suspects are attached to this news release.
The identity of the deceased female, 25, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Gardner and Detective M. Providence reported:
Houston Metro Police Department officers responded to a report of a disturbance on a Metro bus at the above address, which had stopped to pick up passengers.  The officers then found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound.  Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the female to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Further investigation by HPD homicide detectives revealed two male suspects were arguing when the female victim and juvenile male, 16, were both injured by gunfire. Both suspects fled the scene on foot. They were later identified as Smith and Scott. Detectives learned Smith fired the shots that struck the victims. Scott was also armed at the time of the incident.
HPD Homicide Division detectives worked with HPD Westside Division officers, HPD Gang Division officers, Metro PD, Houston ISD Police Department and Alief ISD Police Department in the investigation that resulted in the apprehension of both suspects.
