Investigation into Fatal Crash at 1000 Eastex Freeway

Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a male following a crash that occurred at 1000 Eastex Freeway (North Interstate Highway 59) about 10:40 a.m. today (February 5).
The identity of the deceased male, 56, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Officer K. Stanley reported:
The male was driving a silver Toyota Sienna van southbound on the Eastex Freeway when the van failed to control its speed and struck an unknown trailer truck combination. The driver of the Toyota was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The truck fled the scene without stopping to render aid.
It is believed the male driver of the Toyota may have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
