Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 6500 Almeda Road about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday (February 11).
The identity of the deceased female, 5, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Hall and Officer R. Singleton reported:
A white Toyota Highlander was traveling westbound on Dixie Drive and was attempting to turn left onto Almeda Road when the driver failed to yield the right of way and struck a black GMC Yukon. The Yukon, traveling southbound on Almeda road, rolled on its side as a result of the impact. The juvenile female was not properly restrained and was ejected from the vehicle.
Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the child deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene, did not show signs of intoxication, and was questioned and released.
The investigation is ongoing.
