Investigation into Fatal Crash at 18200 Katy Freeway

Houston police are investigating the fatal crash in the 18200 block of Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) about 4:25 a.m. on Sunday (March 1).
The identity of the deceased male, 15, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. Patterson and Officer J. Tran reported:
A gray Kia Sportage was traveling at a high rate of speed when the vehicle was taking the Greenhouse exit off the freeway. The vehicle clipped the exit sign, left the roadway onto a grassy area, clipped a tree, went sideways into another tree and the vehicle was split in half. One male passenger was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the male driver, 16, and another male passenger, 24, to an area hospital.
No other vehicles were involved.
The investigation is ongoing.
