Investigation into Fatal Shooting Incident at 5800 Glenmont Drive

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed male suspect by an HPD officer in the 5800 block of Glenmont Drive about 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday (March 25).
The identity of the deceased male is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Officer, C. Lopez, who discharged his duty weapon, sustained a non-life-threatening injury. He was sworn in as an officer in January 2025 and is assigned to the South Gessner Patrol Division.
HPD Homicide Division Special Investigations Unit Sergeant M. Glover and Detectives B. Rusher and A. Henderson reported:
HPD patrol officer responded to a call about a suspicious person with a weapon walking near a school at the above address. Upon arrival the officer encountered the suspect and attempted to speak with him.
Upon making contact, the suspect immediately produced a firearm and began to discharge his weapon at the officer. The officer returned fire, striking the suspect. The officer was also struck by the suspect during the exchange of gunfire.
The officer immediately began rendering first aid until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. The officer was treated at the scene for a non-life-threatening injury.
As is customary in officer involved shooting incidents, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
