Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting Incident at 3700 Liberty Road

Charges have been filed against a suspect who fired shots at Houston police officers at 3700 Liberty Road about 9:40 p.m. on Thursday (December 12).
The juvenile suspect, 15, was referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on a charge of aggravated assault of a peace officer.  Juvenile names and booking photos are not releasable.  The suspect was transported to an area hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
HPD Officer L. Crawford, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident.  Officer Crawford was sworn in as an officer in March 2017 and is assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives H. Le and C. Walker reported:
HPD Northeast Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team officers were assisting the HPD Narcotics Division with an investigation near the above address.  Undercover officers observed what they believed to be a narcotics transaction between two males, one of whom appeared to be armed with a handgun. The undercover officers then relayed the information to Crime Suppression Team officers in the area.
A marked HPD patrol vehicle with two officers approached the two males.  As the officers activated their emergency lights and exited the vehicle, the two males fled on foot.  The officers then pursued the two males.
The suspect carrying the weapon displayed the gun and fired at least two times in the direction of the pursuing officers, who were not struck.  Fearing for his and others safety, Officer Crawford discharged his duty weapon and the suspect was struck.  Officers in the area immediately provided medical assistance until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived and transported the suspect to the hospital.  No officers were injured.  The second suspect, described only as a black male wearing a black hoodie was not located and remains at-large.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and charges were filed on the juvenile suspect.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the Houston city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
