Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 9601 West Montgomery Road
Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 9601 West Montgomery Road about 1 a.m. on Monday (Feb. 10).
The suspect, Chris Batiste, 23, is charged with four felonies: murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault of a family member and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon in the 183rd State District Court. A booking photo of Batiste is attached to this news release.
The identity of the victim, 25, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives W. Elliott and D. Hobson reported:
Officers responded to a report of a shooting call in an apartment at the above address. Upon arrival, they were advised that paramedics pronounced a man deceased from a gunshot wound.
It was learned the suspect (Batiste) had an argument with his girlfriend, pointed a gun at her and refused to let her leave her apartment. The girlfriend called family members to the apartment for assistance. The victim arrived and got into a disturbance with Batiste, his brother-in-law. The two fought over Batiste’s gun and a shot was fired, fatally striking the victim. The suspect’s girlfriend was not injured.
Batiste was taken into custody by responding patrol officers and questioned by detectives. He was subsequently charged and transported to the Harris County Jail.
