Investigation into Fatal Crash at 5900 South Freeway

Houston police are investigating the fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred at 5900 South Freeway (State Highway 288) about 8:35 p.m. on Monday (April 21).
The identity of the deceased male, 50, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer A. Thomas reported:
The male, a pedestrian, was seen running on the main lanes of the freeway and multiple people reported the incident to 9-1-1. As officers attempted to locate the male, he continued across the freeway and onto an exit ramp. He was then struck by a black GMC Yukon traveling southbound and exiting toward MacGregor Street.
Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Yukon remained at the scene, did not show signs of intoxication, and was questioned and released.
