Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of two men at 14900 White Heather Drive about 5:45 a.m. last Friday (June 27).
The suspect, Charles Ernest Lopez, 24, is charged with capital murder in the 487th State District Court. A booking photo of Lopez is attached to this news release.
The victims are identified as Natanael Reyes, 68, and Guadalupe Flores, 74.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Arrington and Detective M. Castillo reported:
Officers responded to a report of a person down at a walking trail at the above address. They were directed to a walking trail at the west side of the address and found the two victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victims deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigation found the two males walked the trail daily and their vehicles were found parked in the parking lot. Both appeared to have been shot from behind. The suspect was described only as an unknown male who fled in a white 4-door sedan eastbound from the location.
Further investigation identified the vehicle of interest, and on Monday (June 30), members of the HPD Southwest Patrol Crime Suppression team located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, sole occupant of the vehicle, admitted to his role in the shooting incident. Detetives consulted the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and Lopez was subsequently charged with capital murder.
