Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal hit and run crash that occurred at 8501 North Loop East (North Interstate 610) service road about 12:05 a.m. on Sunday (July 6).
The suspect, Chaizon Myson Young, 22, is charged with failure to stop and render aid after an accident involving death in the 180th State District Court. A booking photo of Young is attached to this news release.
The victim is identified as Oscar Garcia, 23.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Thompson and Officer Y. Ramirez reported:
The driver of a red Dodge Charger was participating in a car meet-up in an industrial parking lot at the above address. Numerous vehicles and spectators had gathered in the lot where several vehicles performed vehicular maneuvers while bystanders filmed. During the event one spectator, who was filming, fell and was struck by the Dodge Charger.
The spectator, Mr. Garcia, was pinned underneath the vehicle but was pulled out by another onlooker with a jack. The driver of the Charger fled the scene without attempting to render aid.
Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced Garcia deceased at the scene.
Further investigation identified Young as the driver of the Charger. Officers later located the suspect and vehicle at a residence in the 7100 block of Garnet Hill Lane. He was arrested, subsequently charged and booked into the Harris County jail.
The investigation is ongoing.
