Investigation into Fatal Shooting Incident at 7100 Rook Boulevard

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed male suspect by an HPD officer at 7100 Rook Boulevard about 12:20 a.m. today (July 7).
The identity of the deceased male suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Sergeant  E. Terrell, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident.  Sergeant Terrell was sworn in as an officer in June 2012 and is assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives H. Le and C. Walker reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to an assault call at an apartment complex at 7035 Bellfort Street and learned the suspect, armed with a weapon, forced entry into a female’s apartment and physically assaulted the victim.
Officers located the suspect in the area and attempted to make contact with him. He fled on foot and attempted to evade officers. During the foot pursuit, the suspect fell and grabbed what appeared to be a handgun from his waistband.
HPD Sergeant Terrell was responding to a seperate call for service at a residence nearby when he observed the armed suspect running towards with officers chasing him. The sergeant gave the suspect verbal commands to stop and he refused to comply. The armed suspect continued to approach the sergeant. Fearing for his safety and others safety, the sergeant discharged his weapon, striking the suspect at least once.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the suspect deceased.  No officers were injured.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the Houston city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
