Investigation into Fatal Shooting Incident at 8800 Aspen Meadow Drive
Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed male robbery suspect by HPD officers at 8800 Aspen Meadow Drive about 7:25 p.m. on Sunday (Aug. 10).
The identity of the suspect, 34, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Seven HPD officers discharged their duty weapons. Sergeant L. Chaney, Officers J. Grawe, R. Vasquez, Q. Nguyen, R. Carballo, and M. Meola, assigned to the Westside Patrol Division, were sworn in as officers in December 2014, October 2023, December 2021, January 2024, May 2019, and January 2024, respectively. Officer N. Jaramillo, assigned to the South Gessner Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in January 2024.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives M. Childs and H. Le reported:
HPD patrol officers were searching for a suspect believed to be involved in multiple aggravated robberies. Officers located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The suspect briefly stopped to inquire about the reason for the traffic stop before getting back into his vehicle and fleeing the scene, initiating a pursuit.
The suspect stopped his vehicle at the above address and exited with two firearms. Officers gave verbal commands for the suspect to drop his weapons, but he did not comply and raised one of the firearms toward officers. Officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect multiple times. Officers rendered aid to the suspect until paramedics arrived at the scene. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers were injured.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
