Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 2700 Southwest Freeway (U.S. Highway 59 South) service road about 7:20 a.m. today (Sept. 26).
The identity of the deceased male, 48, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Alejandro and Officer A. Hart reported:
The driver of a gold Buick Century was traveling westbound on the Southwest Freeway service road when he failed to maintain a single lane, left the roadway and struck a fire hydrant. The vehicle continued forward and struck a metal sign on the sidewalk. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the male to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
There were no other vehicles or persons involved in this crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
