Update: Suspect Charged in 2021 Fatal Shooting at 2900 South Gessner Road
A suspect has been charged in the 2021 fatal shooting of a man at 2900 South Gessner Road that occurred about 3:40 a.m. on April 18, 2021.
Shannon Washington, 46, is charged with capital murder in the 232nd Criminal District Court. A 2022 booking photo of Washington, who is currently in TDCJ custody on an unrelated charge, is attached to this news release.
The victim, Dave Stephens, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Holbrook and Detective J. Roscoe and R. Lujan reported:
Mr. Stephens and his girlfriend arrived in their vehicle to their apartment complex at the above address. Stephens dropped off his girlfriend near their apartment and went to park the vehicle, a white Nissan Rogue. Moments later, the girlfriend heard gunshots. She looked outside and saw Stephens had been shot.
The Nissan was stolen during the incident and later found abandoned in north Houston.
Further investigation and forensic work by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, the Houston Forensic Science Center and the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Lab identified Washington as a suspect in this case. On Thursday (September 25) Washington was charged with capital murder. Washington is currently in TDCJ for an unrelated case.
