Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting Incident at 6555 Harbor Town Drive
Charges have been filed against an armed suspect arrested in a shooting incident in which an HPD officer discharged his duty weapon at 6555 Harbor Town Drive about 10:05 p.m. on Thursday (October 9).
The suspect, John Cesar Silva, 17, is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant and aggravated assault of a family member in the 176th Criminal District Court. A booking photo of Silva is attached to this news release.
Officer C. Santana, who discharged his duty weapon in the incident, was not injured in this incident. Officer Santana, sworn in as an officer in May 2017, is assigned to the Midwest Patrol Division.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives M. Childs and K. Vu reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting in progress at an apartment complex at the above address. Officers located an injured female laying on the ground outside an apartment. She stated her son was upstairs in the apartment, armed with a gun, and was shooting into the apartment. She also stated that her two daughters were in the apartment with him.
Officers approached the apartment, knocked on the door, and announced themselves as police officers. The male suspect, from inside the apartment, discharged his weapon through the door at the officers. One officer discharged his duty weapon. The male suspect eventually came out and surrendered and was taken into custody. He had sustained an injury to his right hand as a result of the shooting and was then transported to a nearby hospital by paramedics.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and the suspect, Silva, was subsequently charged.
