Investigation into Fatal Crash at 5500 Guadalupe Street

Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 5500 Guadalupe Street about 7:05 a.m. on Saturday (October 25).
The identity of the deceased male, 59, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Hall and Officer T. Phillips reported:
HPD patrol officers were responding to a call for service near the above address when they observed a white Chevrolet Impala blocking the road with the driver slumped over. As officers approached the vehicle, the driver drove off. Moments later, the vehicle failed to maintain a single lane and struck two vehicles and two mailboxes.
Officers then located the driver injured, in a ditch. At this time, it is unknown if the suspect was ejected from the vehicle or if he exited the vehicle on his own. Paramedics transported the male to an area hospital where doctors pronounced him deceased.
The investigation is ongoing.
