Investigation into Fatal Crash at 9900 Katy Freeway
Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 9900 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) about 3:15 a.m. today (February 4).
The identity of the deceased male, 59, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Hall and Officer N. Duval reported:
About 3:15 a.m., Northwest Division officers responded to a burglary in progress at 1800 Gessner Road. As officers drove toward the location, they observed a vehicle, a red Buick Century, driving at a high rate of speed. The officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle and activated their emergency equipment. The vehicle, southbound on Witte Road, ran the stop sign at the westbound Katy Freeway service road and struck the freeway wall. Officers arrived at the scene a short time later.
Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the driver deceased at the scene. Two male passengers, ages 65 and 69, were transported to an area hospital.
Officers located multiple new car batteries inside the suspect’s vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
