Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed male suspect by an HPD officer at 6003 Belarbor Street about 12:30 p.m. on Monday (March 9).
The identity of the deceased male is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Officer, R. Saini, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident. He was sworn in as an officer in January 2010 and is assigned to the Tactical Operations Division.
HPD Homicide Division Special Investigations Unit Detectives H. Le, C. Walker, and J. De La Torre reported:
Officers with the Texas Attorney General’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Harris County Precinct 7 Constables Office were at a residence at the above address to serve a warrant. When officers announced themselves, the suspect armed himself with at least two weapons. The officers moved to a position of cover and requested the Houston Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit.
Hours later, the suspect opened the front door and pointed a weapon in the direction of officers standing outside. An HPD officer fired a shot at the suspect, who retreated inside the residence and fired at least one shot at the HPD officer. The officer returned fire, striking the suspect. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene.
As is customary in HPD officer–involved shooting incidents in the city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
