Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the Harris County Office of the County Engineer, Commissioners Court, and project partners will break ground on Harris County’s first dedicated Swiftwater Rescue Training Facility — the first facility of its kind in the region.

BACKGROUND:
For years, HCSO sent deputies to the nearest swiftwater rescue training facility, located outside Austin, for certification. That facility has since closed, but the need for trained first responders has only grown.
This voter-approved, bond-funded facility will serve HCSO, constables, and first responder agencies from across the region, helping close the training gap highlighted by Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
