Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 340 South 69th Street

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 340 South 69th Street about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 7).
The identity of the deceased male, 57, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives C. Vaughn and L. Patterson reported:
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the above address and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound outside a business at the above address. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the man to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Further investigation revealed the victim was an on-duty security guard at the business when he was approached by a suspect described only as a white or Hispanic male. The suspect placed a gun to the victim’s back and attempted to disarm the security guard. A physical altercation ensued and the suspect fired his weapon, striking the victim. The suspect then fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
