Charges have been filed against an armed suspect arrested in a shooting incident in which an HPD officer discharged his duty weapon at 2200 Briarview Drive.
The suspect, Letonto Gaspard, 49, is charged with two counts of misdemeanor deadly conduct in Harris County Criminal Court #3 and #4. A booking photo of Gaspard, who is hospitalized, is not available at this time.
Officer A. Said, who discharged his duty weapon in the incident, was not injured in this incident. Officer Said, sworn in as an officer in March 2022, is assigned to the Westside Patrol Division.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives M. Childs and K. Vu reported:
A man was walking walking along the 2400 block of Briargreen Drive with his one-year-old son when another male pointed a weapon at them. The father called 911. He and his son were not injured.
HPD officers responded, observed a male matching the suspect’s description walking on Locke Lane. Officers gave the suspect commands to stop and drop the firearm. The suspect ignored all commands and continued walking.
In the 2200 block of Briarview Drive, the suspect began pointing his firearm toward the two responding HPD officers. One officer discharged his duty weapon, striking the suspect at least one time. Officers detained the suspect and began rendering first aid until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived and transported the suspect to an area hospital.
Investigators consulted the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and the suspect was subsequently charged for his role in this incident.
